Concerned Citizens for Abingdon's Future
a Wal-Mart in Abingdon, VA on September 30 hosting review
It was frustrating to show up with petitions for such a small audience and still act like this was an important event. However, when I compare the number of cars in the parking lot with the number of people who saw this particular movie, I must say that my numbers were actually quite good. The people who came were generous in their expressions of gratitude.

Questions for the host:

Q: Why did you host this screening? What were your goals?
A: We have a strong Town Plan in place that includes protecting the traditional image of our access corridors and supporting locally-owned businesses that predates the original development proposal. That original proposal was rejected, but the state DOT approved the revision of the expressway and access to the site, so we have a petition campaign going to hold our Town Council to its word.

Q: Any additional materials you could have used?
A: I would have liked more flexibility in the listing since I had multiple showings and charged admission.

Q: Any ideas on how you can use "Wal-Mart" in the future?
A: I'm hoping to get the Town Council to attend a special showing at a meeting at the Town Hall. I think it's their civic duty! After the revised site plan is submitted to the Planning Commission, I might go for a second series of public showings.

Q: Any advice for future screening hosts?
A: Stop preaching to the choir and target those who think another big-box is a great idea. But remember - they are not stupid, only misinformed.

The venue, Abingdon Cinemall, gets 5 stars
