Irvine Screening, 2/20/2008
a Uncounted in Irvine, CA on February 20 hosting review
The film screening was quite successful, and it was so nice to have Steve Heller there. His comments and presence were very well-received. And as a complete but pleasant surprise, Judy Alter showed up too, so the audience had the benefit of hearing her words also! When Judy stopped by the sign-in table and said she was in the film, I recognized her immediately as the seated woman who after hearing about Athan Gibbs looked up so poignantly with wet eyes. That was a very touching and effective scene. I felt just the same the second time I watched the film.
We took donations for all ten DVDs at $15 each. We passed out the UNCOUNTED postcards and made an announcement that more DVDs could be purchased at the UNCOUNTED website. We had 65 people. They were animated and learned a lot.

Questions for the host:
Q: Why did you host this screening? What were your goals?
A: People need to understand the dangers we face in our elections, both from Jim Crow tactics and touch-screen voting machines that tabulate votes using secret software.
Q: Any additional materials you could have used?
A: There's a lot to absorb when you first watch the film, so I made a handout listing the ways voters were disenfranchised in Ohio in 2004 - copied from the movie - and some pertinent quotes.
The venue, Irvine Ranch Water District DUCK CLUB, gets 4 stars
