Potrero Hill Loves 'Iraq for Sale!'
a Iraq for Sale in San Francisco, CA on October 19 hosting review
I hosted the event in my neighborhood community center for free. The tools you gave me to promote the event were excellent! I also received materials from Young Democrats of America and Code Pink. I hosted an info table with a variety of their literature. I provided simple, healthy snacks, soda & water, background music, and a large theater. Over half of the attendance was driven by flyers I posted around my neighborhood. I also promoted the event at my neighborhood festival the weekend before, as well as on yda.org and the National Democrat's website. The people who attended were very warm and eager to talk about how they felt regarding the war. They were very happy I hosted the screening and wanted to know how a volunteer like me could put this all together. They hissed, boo'ed and clapped during the filming. People aged 25-85 attended from all over my neighborhood. Three people purchased DVDs, and I lent my copy to the community center to show a variety of student and senior groups. I completed the event feeling very accomplished and rejuvenated before the November 7 election!

Questions for the host:

Q: Why did you host this screening? What were your goals?
A: I hosted this screening to feel like I was contributing to getting our troops out of Iraq. I wanted to bring people together to educate them further about the war, let them know there are people out there who are as angry as they are, and show them they can be change-makers, too.

Q: Any additional materials you could have used?
A: I received free promotional materials, but it was the night before my event. It would have been great to receive them about a week earlier.

Q: Any ideas on how you can use "Iraq for Sale" in the future?
A: I bought extra DVD copies and plan on giving them out as Christmas presents - with the stipulation they must show the film to their friends & family!

Q: Any advice for future screening hosts?
A: Promote the event in your neighborhood in addition to online postings. A majority of my attendees simply saw my flyers posted around town.

Q: Would you do it again for another film?
A: YES

The venue, Potrero Hill Neighborhood House, gets 5 stars
